Photo Shoot: Aimee and Spencer
I had so much fun going out and shooting with Aimee and her sweet little four-year-old, Spencer. Ah, he’s adorable! The blue eyes and blonde hair makes me think of my Icelandic friends.

Friday Favorites: Leonardo DiCaprio
My favorite movie when I was 15 was “Romeo + Juliet,” so of course I’ve always had a place in my heart for Leonardo DiCaprio. But he really does choose amazing, complex roles in really interesting films (a few that come to mind are “Shutter Island,” “The Departed,” and “Inception”) and is such a great actor. I can usually bet that any movie...

Weekend Highlights
Meg, Holly, Liz, Lauren, and a couple other girls from Grace Church were involved in a dodgeball tournament on Friday. I went to cheer them on. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while was watching my friends’ team go up against a bunch of what looked like 10-year-old girls. Those poor girls! Completely unfair match but it was entertaining to watch. Saturday was...

Weekend Highlights
This weekend was full of highlights, but Friday night’s Valentine’s Day party has to come first. Caroline and Charity threw a fantastic party! Everyone dressed in festive attire (whether wearing cheesy prom stuff or just red and pink) and people danced all night. The photo booth was one of the best ideas for the party if you ask me. Who doesn’t love a photo booth? I...

Friday Favorites: Downton Abbey
For all you people who have not gotten hooked on the best show on television right now, go to pbs.org and check out “Downton Abbey.” Everybody’s doing it (watching the show, that is). And with good reason. The characters are complex and well-acted and everybody’s in somebody’s business. Kindof like Pride and Prejudice meets soap opera, except better.

Weekend Highlights
I drove to Richmond on Sunday and stayed with my good friend Ellen Kelly. Richmond is such a charming city! I like that it’s big enough to be considered a city, with numerous universities, lots of artsy shops, and great little restaurants, but it also feels accessible. Ellen and I went to a couple of superbowl parties and I even ended up talking to a guy who has already finished the...

Friday Favorites: Word of Mouth
Word of Mouth is hands down my new favorite lunch spot in Greenville. As the name of the place suggests, they don’t have a website or any advertising; I never would have known about it if my sister Cate hadn’t suggested we go there for lunch the other day. When the strawberry and walnut salad came out, I knew I needed to feature this place as a Friday favorite. What beautiful food!...

Weekend Highlights
My friend Kelly put together a double birthday party for Meg and Lauren on Saturday night at Larkin’s. The highlight of the night may have been watching Meg and Lauren both trying to blow out their trick candles on their birthday cakes. :) The food at Larkin’s is excellent, by the way! I had never really had dinner there (at least not in the last five years). Lauren and Bennett...

If I were to have a tattoo: “Au milieu de l’hiver, j’ai découvert en moi un invincible été.” - Albert Camus (in the depths of winter, I discovered there was in me an invincible summer) So beautiful!

Weekend Highlights
This weekend’s biggest highlight was finding out that Anna and Jason are having a BOY! They planned out a big party and had everyone make a guess, then they cut a cake to reveal blue! It was a great family time! Love all those smiles! For the party, I made these yummy strawberry shortcakes with basil and balsamic. I was a little nervous about the combination of flavors but Rachael...

Friday Favorites: Breaking Bad
I had some friends at dinner the other night say, “Jennie, we hate you and we love you. We just spent the last week watching the first, second, and third seasons of ‘Breaking Bad’ on Netflix.” So consider yourself warned. This show is completely addictive (ironically, since it’s about a chemistry teacher who finds out he needs quick money so begins cooking meth)....

Weekend Highlights
Friday was Holly’s birthday, so Blake had a group of us waiting at Soby’s downtown to surprise her. Holly and I ordered the same dish: the fried chicken. It was seriously the best chicken I have ever had, with an amazing honey pepper sauce. So delicious! Jack and I picked out hilarious balloons and Blake coordinated the delivery of an amazing cake for the end of the evening. I...

Friday Favorites: Matthew Macfadyen
I love the book Pride and Prejudice. And I love both movies (although I know so many people who swear by the older BBC version, which is essentially written from the book word for word). Matthew Macfadyen plays Mr. Darcy in the movie with Keira Knightly and he must be my favorite character.

Weekend Highlights
These dogs were having as much fun as you could imagine having on such a pretty day in Greenville. I had the chance to shoot some photos of my friend Kim with her dogs the other day at the Rock Quarry Garden downtown, and it was so much fun! Adorable. Other highlights: -Summer Sausage party on Sunday evening. We played silly games, had vibrant conversation, and enjoyed yummy cheese, wine,...

Friday Favorites: Bill Cunningham
I watched this fantastic documentary last night about Bill Cunningham, a fashion photographer for the New York Times who is just a wonderful person. Yes, he shoots all the big fashion shows in Paris and New York, but his real passion is shooting people wearing those fashions on the streets of New York. This guy wakes up and rides his bicycle around the city every day looking for beauty. He...

Weekend Highlights
Happy New Year! Since a huge group of some of our best friends were going to the Avett Brothers concert at the BiLo Center for new year’s, a few of us decided to throw a little get-together to celebrate the new year and to have something to do rather than floating around downtown that night. Jack and I took over the guest list while Kelly and Shannon got to venue together; we ended up...

Friday Favorites: Richard Avedon
Richard Avedon’s portraits are lovely and simple. He’s known for photographing Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Andy Warhol, the 1982 Versache campaign, and Harper’s Bazaar. His black and white portraits have a distinct look and feel to them, like this one of Bridgitte Bardot. So Beautiful! (Let’s admit it: you could probably take a pretty awesome pic of her just with an...

Weekend Highlights
One of my highlights of Christmas happened after dinner on Sunday. Mom passed out candles and we all started singing Christmas carols. What fun! Cate grabbed my camera so that I could join the family in the photo! On Christmas eve, everyone met over at Anna and Jason’s for a great brunch. I think that’s going to be a new tradition. On the night of Christmas eve, we girls...

Friday Favorites: The Buried Life
I love the guys on this show, but even more, I love the idea: at the beginning of every show, the guys ask, “So, what do you want to do before you die?”  The four guys have all kinds of outrageous stuff on their lists, and they check things off systematically on the show. The catch is that they always help someone else check off their answer to “the question.” For...

Weekend Highlights
My friends and I decided it was time for a really good holiday dance party. So Vanessa opened her house, Austin set up his DJ equipment, and we had a fantastic night dancing and celebrating on Saturday. I love my friends! Three of my sisters made it to the party, which was fun! We didn’t mean to coordinate but definitely did. Had to grab a photo: Last week, Blake, Holly, Ward,...

Friday Favorites: David Sedaris
He’s just so cool. His writing style will take you in and you’ll find yourself, alone in your bedroom, at 1 a.m., unable to put your book down, and laughing out loud at his hilarious thoughts about everyday events. A reviewer from Boston Globe writes, “It’s not just that Sedaris’ crisp prose is humorous. What makes his work a consistent joy to read is his...

On Friday I was able to shoot the most fun company Christmas party I’ve ever been to. HTI held their Christmas party at Zen, a beautiful event space in downtown Greenville, and my friend Anna invited me to shoot the event. The band was amazing (Hip Pocket from Greensboro, NC), everyone looked great, and the night was definitely as fun as any wedding reception I’ve attended! ...

Weekend Highlights
One of the highlights of the weekend was Sunday night’s “lessons and carols” service followed by a great little Christmas party at the house where Meg, Tara-Leigh, Marlena, and Emily live. I love Thanksgiving with my family. This year was one of my favorites that I can remember. The food was absolutely delicious (green bean casserole, broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, turkey and dressing…all of the usual awesome Thanksgiving food!) and conversation was sparkling. This year, Jess and Joel created a “conversation box” filled with questions like, “What was...

“Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be...

My good friends Chris and Shamane got engaged on a cruise last week, so Chris’ family decided to throw a surprise “welcome to the family” party for Sharmane. It was such a fantastic engagement party. Fall is fleeting, and I may have gotten my last day to shoot these amazing fall colors on Friday. I couldn’t get over how vibrant all the colors looked when I went out for a couple shoots. Friday Favorites: Frontal Cortex
Looking for something super-interesting to read? Check out Jonah Lehrer’s blog, Frontal Cortex. This guy’s smart: he’s a contributing editor for Wired and the author of How We Decide and Proust was a Neuroscientist. His observations about human nature and social psychology are on point, insightful, and interesting but also written in a very down-to-earth way. I love it that...

Had such a blast photographing Megan and Shannon’s wedding this past weekend in downtown Greenville. The wedding was a great night of celebration for the couple. Of course, one of the highlights of photographing a wedding, besides having the chance to capture incredible moments all evening, is getting to try the wedding cake. It was delicious! More photos from the wedding are on the...

Happy birthday, Leah! The family and a couple of good friends got together at Jess and Joel’s place last night to celebrate Leah’s birthday. Friday Favorites: Doddfather
One of my good friends, Dodd, writes a great blog that I only discovered a couple weeks ago: doddfather.tumblr.com. It’s unusual because it’s a collection of “mini-sagas,” short stories that are told in exactly 50 words. It’s so amazing that Dodd can craft an image and really tell an entire story with such restraint, and you’ll find yourself reading page after...

Weekend Highlights
The highlight of the weekend was definitely camping under the stars on Saturday night. We took Austin’s boat out on Lake Hartwell and sailed to a small island and set up camp. Had the most amazing dinner by throwing chicken and veggies with olive oil and seasonings into foil and putting it right onto the fire. I know that eating food outdoors always makes it taste better (isn’t it...

Friday Favorites: The Little Prince
This is such a great story about a little boy who travels the universe and loves a lone flower on a planet. Simple, heart-breaking…you need to read it if you haven’t. It was originally written in French but you can buy the English translation. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Side note: There was a movie...

This weekend was Greenville’s annual Fall for Greenville festival. All of the best restaurants in town have tents set up downtown and all of Greenville comes out to eat, drink, listen to live music, and enjoy the amazing fall weather. This festival is so much fun, especially since everyone you’ve ever known in Greenville is out. The photo above is from our walk downtown on Friday...

Friday Favorites: Oliver Sacks
The Man who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks is such a fascinating read. Oliver Sacks is a professor of neurology and psychiatry and has written numerous books relating his experiences over the years with different psychiatric patients. His book Awakenings was made into a movie years ago, but another that is really interesting is Musicophilia which explores the power of music in...

Weekend Highlights
For my weekend highlights, I have to start off with what is freshest and sweetest in my mind: Sunday evening sailing with friends. A few of us left from Greenville and met Austin last night to go for another evening sail. We were out on the water for over four hours but time seemed to stand still. I love being on the water! There was a lot of wind and standing at the front of the boat with just...

Weekend Highlights
This weekend, Cate, Leah, Will, Phil, and I went up to Skytop Orchard to pick apples. What we really went up to do was sip cider, eat apple cinnamon sugar doughnuts, and take fun pictures. It was a blast! Cate is such a patient model and doesn’t mind me telling her to stop for the perfectly-lit photo. I can’t say the same for Leah, but both sisters are equally gorgeous in photos. ...

Friday Favorites: Games
I really like games. It’s rare to get together for an evening of playing games, but whenever I do I love it! I think you get to know a different side of people when you play certain games: how competitive are they? How well do they think on their feet? Why do they shout out the crazy things they do while giving clues? Some of my all-time favorite games are Catch Phrase and Wits and...

The weekend was great! This week has been a little busy so I’m just getting to posting my highlights, but here we go: On Friday night we threw a surprise party for Holly, Blake’s fiance who just moved to town. Friday Favorites: Style by Becca
Style by Becca is one of my favorite shops in Greenville. It’s full of quirky, funky jewelry and clothes but the standout quality of the shop is its owner, Rebecca. She’s a stylist in every sense; not only does she have a full-service salon in the shop but she gets to know her customers and can make styling suggestions based on their tastes. It’s amazing what a difference...

I met up with my good friend Ward to take photos of him with his adorable three-year-old, Saylor. Ward’s parents were in town and we figured it was the perfect opportunity to snap some shots after the Sesame Street Live show downtown. When we went to get ice cream, Saylor decided that she was going to serve all of us imaginary ice cream, and the shot above was taken when she was giving me...
